Yesterday 12/23 I did my first survey of the winter season along the Mahoning R. (Struthers to Lowellville section).  I had some pretty good luck, even though we haven't had a freeze-up yet.  Birds included 6 Am. black ducks, 7 ring-necked ducks, bufflehead, 23 hooded mergansers, pied-billed grebe, an adult bald eagle, 2 red-tailed hawks, Am. kestrel, 75 ring-billed gulls, Carolina wren, and e. bluebirds.  Craig Holt, Lowellville
