Saturday was the Christmas Bird Count at Shaker Lakes. Highlights were a
couple of Common Redpolls and a Pine Siskin at the Nature Center, a Bald
Eagle flyover seen by Tom Pienkowski and Dave Dvorak in the Doan Brook
gorge, and a Red-breasted Nuthatch at Julie West and Gary Neuman's
feeder. We also had a handful of different duck species -- Ruddy Duck
and Hooded Merganser -- thanks to the fact that the lakes are not yet
frozen this year. My ebird lists from the part of the count around the
Lower Shaker Lake and Horseshoe Lake and in the vicinity of the Nature
Center follow. Not all the species listed above are on these lists,
since these sightings were by folks split off in different parts of the
count area.

Comments: Christmas Bird Count. Started at Nature Center at Shaker Lakes, clockwise around Lower Shaker Lake and return to Nature Center. Began with 11 birders, but three dropped out shortly after
start due to cold. Two birders continued along Doan Brook gorge from Lower Lake dam. Their sightings from the gorge, including a Bald Eagle, are not included here. From the Nature Center,
four of us continued into wooded area south of the Nature Center and across Shaker Boulevard into Southerly Park and as far as the intersection of South Woodland and Parkland, then returned to the
Nature Center. Small amount of snow on the ground, but lakes not frozen.
