Making Ohio Birding History: The new rise of Cleveland & Lake Erie Birding
        Jen Brumfield
        Local Patch Birding Tours

Over the past 3 years, Jen has "power-birded" the Cleveland lakefront, from Huntington Reservation west to Sim's Park, and almost daily spending time at Wendy Park, Edgewater Park and Dike 14 – the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve. Having conducted hundreds of fall water bird counts on the Cleveland shore, she has recorded astounding diversity and numbers of waterfowl, loons, grebes, jaegers and gulls. She almost single-handedly revived, after a 20 year lull, Burke Lakefront Airport's fame as a hotspot for migrating shorebirds, and has surged focus, attention and celebration back into Cleveland birding and pushed it into the national spotlight. Jen has organized pelagic trips on Lake Erie and has organized the blog NorthNW that is at the forefront of regional migration predictions and commentary and offers local birders a key tool in deciphering spring and fall migration in the region. All of these activities are defining a new and exciting frontier for birding right here in our own backyard.
