All,

Ohio-Bird listservers might find the following program interesting.

Jen Brumfield will be presenting the program 'The new rise of Cleveland & Lake Erie Birding' as part of the The Audubon Society of Greater Cleveland program series at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History at 7:00 pm, Wednesday December 12. This program is free and all are welcome.

Over the past 3 years in particular, Jen has "power-birded" the Cleveland lakefront, from Huntington Reservation west to Sim's Park, and almost daily spending time at Wendy Park, Edgewater and Dike 14 - the Cleveland Lakefront Nature Preserve. She has conducted hundreds of fall water bird counts on the Cleveland shore, recording astounding diversity and numbers of waterfowl, loons, grebes, jaegers and gulls. She has helped revive, after a 20 year lull, Burke Lakefront Airport's fame as a hotspot for migrating shorebirds, and has helped bring focus, attention and celebration back into Cleveland birding and pushed it into the national spotlight. Her 2012 Cuyahoga County big year currently stands at 267 species as of this writing, an all-time record. Along with several colleagues in the Great Lakes region, her NorthNW blog is at the forefront of regional migration predictions and commentary and offers local birders a key tool in deciphering spring and fall migration in the region. Through Local Patch Birding Tours, Jen has offered four pelagic boat trips off of Vermilion, Ohio in the fall, targeting jaegers, Sabine's Gulls and other specialty species. These highly successful trips have recorded multiple jaegers offshore, from 8-14 miles on the open waters of Lake Erie, on every trip, and the second highest total of Sabine's Gulls in history.

Join us for a celebration of the birding wonders of the Cleveland lakefront and the waters of Lake Erie.

Hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Harvey
