For those trying for the waxwings, I had both croosbills at Lake Metropark's Chapin Forest Reservation, which is only about 10 minutes from Holden Arboretum. The birds were on the Hobart Road side of Chapin, or the arboretum side. There was a flock of 25-30 white-winged crossbills in the onifer stands north of the parking lot. I also had a single red crossbill in the sweetgums northwest of the field north of the lot. The Ohio Division of Forestry planted a wide variety of conifers and hardwoods here in the late 1950s. There is a mix of native and non-native conifers and there are a lot of cones. For directions check out the Lake Metroparks website at lakemetroparks.com.
