For those central Ohio birders trying to up their January lists, at 1:00 PM there was a white-winged scoter at the Marysville Upground Reservoir, NW of Columbus, OH. The bird spent most of its time right in front of the emergency boat ramp, although walkers caused it to take flight to the middle of the reservoir. It would soon return to the boat ramp area. Also present was a common loon. There was also one lone “diver” in the middle of the reservoir that slept the entire hour I was there, never allowing an ID with a scope. No other waterfowl present.

The reservoir is on the NW side of Marysville on Raymond Road.
