Hi all,

I ran up to Lawrence Woods State Nature Preserve this afternoon. Up to eight Short-eared Owls were active and in full hunting mode upon my arrival at 4:30 pm. The birds are easily observed and often at close range. It's a photographer's dream, as owls often perch on the roadside fence posts. Just watch for traffic, although the road fronting the preserve is very lightly traveled. If you stay back 100 feet or so and remain in the vehicle, the owls utterly ignore you. I should have some pretty good images, and will stick some on my blog later.
