Greetings -
I had an hour this afternoon at East 72nd after work. The ice shelf is completely melted but gulls are still massing at 72nd in fantastic numbers. Four Iceland Gulls gave great looks, including all ages - a single 1st-cycle, a 2nd-cycle, a 3rd-cycle, and an adult. Based on several visits, I've seen 6 different Iceland Gulls at East 72nd over the past couple of days: including a different adult bird and another 2nd-cycle individual. Seven Lesser Black-backs were present this afternoon, but far fewer Great Black-backs were around. A first-cycle "Nelson's Gull" (Herring x Glaucous hybrid) was hanging around this afternoon. With the incoming cold snap, the warm water outflow from 72nd will continue to offer some fantastic gulling.
