Tuesday afternoon while scanning a pond at The Wilds, a very
rufous duck caught my attention. My So Cal roots screamed CINNAMON TEAL but it
wasn't quite right. When I got the scope out, most of the ducks flushed and
landed further out. I couldn't refind it and the American Wigeons it seemed to associate
with had headed for cover in the reeds. I didn't think much else about it since
it was getting dark. Tonight while looking through pictures my fiancée took, I
found it. I sent Jen Brumfield some of the photos. She says it's definitely a
wigeon and could possibly be a EURASIAN. If anyone wants to look for it (I work
tomorrow) it was in the long pond along Zion Ridge Rd (Co Hwy 61) just east of
Big Muskie Rd (St. Rt. 284). Most other ponds are frozen. Photos on OHIO RARE BIRD ALERT on Facebook.
