Hi everyone,

This afternoon Beth and I took a walk in Lakeview Cemetery, on the Cleveland
Heights-Cleveland-East Cleveland borders. Things were very quiet there, just
a few Red-bellied Woodpeckers and Dark-eyed Juncos. Nobody feeding in the
spruces or the sweet-gums. But then, about 4:30, we had a Merlin flying very
low near Wade Chapel. It gave us two very quick looks. But taking into
consideration the date and the place and what we did see of the bird, if‹as
my biologist son-in-law says in his most scientific manner‹someone held a
gun to my head and demanded an answer, I¹d say a Merlin.

Then, walking past Mayfield Cemetery (just to the east of Lake View), we had
good looks at a Northern Mockingbird.

Best wishes, and Happy New Year to all,

Steve Cagan
Cuyahoga County
