There has been a male Barred Owl calling in our neighborhood one block north of Highbridge Road and the Gorge Metro Park and 4 blocks east of the High Level Bridge between Cuyahoga Falls and Akron. I first heard it on Jan 9 (around 11 pm until about 5 am) although my husband claims to have heard it before that date. It is mostly heard on nights when it isn’t snowing. I heard it at 4 am this morning for about an hour. Early last week, I played the ODNR Division of Wildlife Owls of Ohio CD’s male hooting track a few times, hoping to bring it to my pine trees but instead it flew to my neighbor’s pines across the street. It flew to a bare tree in another neighbor’s backyard where I managed to see it hooting before it flew off into the darkness.
