I skated around these areas in west-central Columbus this morning looking for unusual landbirds & waterfowl. Landbirds were unremarkable, except for a few Brown Creepers in the woodlots in Grandview heights, but Watermark Lake and the nearby Scioto River had some migrating waterfowl. Notables included:
Mallards & Black Ducks - 60-80 of the former and 2 of the latter on the River
Ring-necked Ducks - 70+ were on the River just west of Riverside Corporate Center
Redheads - 50+ were next to the Ring-neck flock on the River
Lesser Scaup - 1 lone bird was on the river, while another was on Watermark Lake
Hooded Mergansers - 10+ at each location
Pied-billed Grebes - 3 were on Watermark Lake
Horned Grebe - a small flock of 8 was on Watermark Lake
American Coots - 80+ were feeding in the east end of Watermark Lake
