As the ice continues to move in and out this winter, large numbers of 
waterfowl are found in the pockets of open waters off South Bass Island. Bob 
Glauser reported 3 double-crested cormorants in the Bay on the ice-not far 
from water kept open by bubblers under docks.

1 Redhead
~30 Canvasback
~30 Lesser Scaup
~ 50 Common Goldeneye
~10 Ring-necked Ducks
2 Black Ducks
5 Mallards

Friday evening-Scheeff East Point Preserve
large numbers of Common Goldeneye far offshore
Red-breasted Mergansers
Great Black-Backed Gulls
Herring Gulls

Thursday evening-Chapman's Point
~750 Common Goldeneye
24 Tundra Swans
10 Great Black-backed Gulls
2 Herring Gulls
4 Mallards
