I stopped at several areas around Galena this afternoon, and saw a lot of ice.  Upper Hoover was not really 'freed' by our recent warm spell, and the only open water was a small lead south of the boardwalk that held a modest flock of Canada Geese.  Areas M, N, and Wiese Rd had little in the way of landbirds other than woodpeckers and nuthatches.  Wiese had a Swamp Sparrow hiding along the frozen reservoir shore.

On my way back into Columbus, I stopped at Hoff Woods, a small park more-or-less surrounded by suburban Westerville.  In a matter of 15 minutes I had a bigger list than in all my spots at Galena, yet another demonstration of how suburban plantings and feeders have re-cast birds' wintering habitat choices here in central Ohio.  Noteworthy there were Flickers, Robins, and a Yellow-rumped warbler, all crammed into a small woodlot with the typical flockbirds, Cardinals, and Juncos.
