Fellow bird freaks,
Visited the feeders at Carla Stimmel's today to photograph a mystery
bird that had shown up yesterday. Looks like a leucistic (sp??) house
finch to me, with an almost completely white head. I've seen orange and
almost yellow finches before, but never a white one. I have some decent
photos that I would share with anyone that would like to verify this id or
just like to collect weird bird photos. Would actually be interested in
others opinions. Carla also had a very light colored Redpoll.
Other interesting finds in Perry county today included a Rough legged
hawk (also photographed), 110 crows, and 60 horned larks all seen on OK
Sweeney road near Clouse Lake south of Somerset. Our own feeders had a *RUSTY
BLACKBIRD, *three Towhee, Yellow bellied sapsucker and all the other usual
suspects. The yard had a Pileated woodpecker, and a bluebird to brighten
things up.
All in all a good day that again reminded us how lucky we are to have
such a nice birdy place.
