Ryan Golterman and I put in a full day's birding in NE Ohio today.  We started at 10:00 AM at Malek Pk. in Conneaut, in hopes of a good hawk flight.  There was some movement in the first hour, but the wind changed to onshore about 11:00 and the flight shut down.  Birds seen there: n. shovelers, green-winged teal, c. loon, turkey vultures, n. harrier, sharp-shinned hawks, red-shouldered hawks, red-tailed hawk, killdeers, e. phoebe, and e. meadowlark.  Next we went to Conneaut harbor.  Waterfowl and noisy gulls were the highlights there.  We met up with Bob and Denise Lane there; we weren't able to find the long-tailed duck or glaucous gull they had seen earlier in the morning, but we did see these birds: Am. wigeon, gadwalls, blue-winged teal, canvasbacks, greater scaup, lesser scaup, buffleheads, hooded merganser, red-breasted mergansers, ruddy ducks, horned grebes, Am. coots, Bonaparte's gulls, and great black-backed gulls.  We headed south on
Rte. 11 towards Mosquito L. in the afternoon.  En route I spotted some wild turkeys in Dorset Twp. (Ashtabula Co.).  At Mosquito L., waterfowl were again the main attraction.  Birds there included: tundra swans, gadwalls, Am. wigeon, n. shovelers, Am. black ducks, canvasback, redheads, ring-necked ducks, lesser scaup, buffleheads, ruddy ducks, horned grebe, a pair of ospreys at their nest, Cooper's hawk, Am. coots, belted kingfisher, red-headed woodpecker, and a few tree swallows.  It was certainly good to feel the warmth of the sun today!  Craig Holt, Lowellville
