Greetings - Our neighbor, Erie, Pennsylvania, has been hosting upwards of 30 Little Gulls and two Black-headed Gulls, plus Eurasian Wigeon, and 250+ Long-tailed Ducks, all seen today. Upwards of 40 to 50 THOUSAND Bonaparte's Gulls have been present. This is incredible and worth a visit for those that are able to zip up to Presque Isle State Park, one of the most stunning parks on the South shoreline of Lake Erie.
Jerry McWilliam's update:
"From Presque Isle State Park, PA from Jerry McWilliams: Nearly all the gulls around the park were at Gull Point, off Beach 11, and in Thompson Bay this morning. I estimated upwards of 70,000 gulls of which 40,000 to 50,000 were Bonaparte's Gulls. Among the Bonaparte's were at least two adult Black-headed Gulls, and later one off vista 1, and perhaps as many as 25 to 30 adult and one first cycle Little Gull. At times I was seeing five or six Little Gulls in a flock of a thousand or so Bonaparte's streaming past and then another flock, and another, and another. Nearly every flock of Bonaparte's contained at least one or two Little Gulls. I watched this movement of birds for nearly two hours. Eventually the Bonaparte's gathered off Gull Point and along Beach 11 where I estimated well over 40,000 birds. I had multiple sightings of Glaucous Gulls an Iceland Gull and a couple of adult Lesser Black-backed Gulls. By early afternoon the flocks had scattered and several thousand Bonaparte's ended up off Vista 1 where I spotted an an adult Black-headed Gull and at least a couple Little Gulls.
There were also at least 250 Long-tailed Ducks in Presque Isle Bay.
