The 7.3" snowstorm here at Fenwick West, my home in northwest Hocking
County, on Sunday(March 24)brought birds flocking to my feeders. Birds
seen Sunday-Monday include:
Pine warbler.
Dark-eyed junco.
Song Sparrow.
Purple finch.
Carolina chickadee.
Downy woodpecker.
Goldfinch.
Tufted titmouse.
                               Red-breasted nuthatch.
Cardinal.
White-breasted nuthatch.
House finch.
Hairy woodpecker.
Mourning dove.
Carolina wren.
Red-bellied woodpecker.
Fox sparrow.
In mid-afternoon, on Monday, a flock of 9 Wild turkeys spent more than 30
minutes scratching away snow and leaves, searching for food where a
meadow meets the woodland near my house.
Later in the afternoon the birds vanished from the feeder behind my
house. The reason was a Screech owl(gray-phase)that had perched on a bird
house attached to the back of my house just 9 feet from the feeder. All
of the birds then were at the feeder in the yard on the east side of the
house.
