Please come to our March program. The spring movement of waterfowl is upon us and the wetlands along Lake Erie are an important factor. Winous Point has played a major role in conservation of our coastal wetlands.

Conserving Wetlands and Waterfowl: the Winous Point Story
John Simpson - Director, Winous Point Marsh Conservancy
The Winous Point Shooting Club, founded in 1856, is the oldest waterfowl hunting club still in operation today in the USA. The WPSC has a long tradition of wetlands and waterfowl conservation, a tradition that dates back to the Cleveland businessmen who founded the club. Interestingly enough, this interest in natural history by the membership can also be traced to the early roots of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History. This passion for conservation lives on today at Winous Point as evidenced by the relatively new Winous Point Marsh Conservancy, a foundation created to direct the conservation mission at Winous Point and within the coastal wetlands of NW Ohio. This presentation will explore the founding of the WPSC, its ties to the CMNH, and the rich history that that ties waterfowling and wetlands conservation together in NW Ohio.
REMINDER: OUR PROGRAMS AT THE CMNH HAVE FREE PARKING AND ON CLEAR NIGHTS, THE OBSERVATORY MAY BE OPEN AFTER THE PROGRAM!!!
