Not sure why the below message came out so scrambled. Here it is again for those who are interested.

Subject: Hoover snow bunting plus spring signs

Had a mixed day at Hoover near the Marina. Still had lesser scalp and the lone snow bunting, but also had killdeer and male red-winged blackbirds, as well as turkey vultures. Other birds were bluebirds, bufflehead and American coots.

Subject: [Ohio-birds] urbanEarlyMigrants,Columbus,3-15

The Ides of March is often thought of as the beginning of Spring in some Eastern locales, and it seems to be living up to that reputation today with early migrants. I spent a few hours at several sites along Big Walnut and Alum Creeks in NE Columbus and Gahanna, and found a few early migrants, including:

E.Phoebe - 1 was calling along Alum Creek at Tanager Woods

Tree Swallow - 1 was a flyby at Academy Park in Gahanna

Brown Creepers - singles were at Woodside Green & Innis Park

Golden-cr.Kinglets - singles were at several locations

Amer.Robins - small flocks were at many locations both along the Creeks and in parks

Yellow-rumped Warblers - small numbers were everywhere I went, so they seem to be filtering through right now.

E.Towhee - 1 male was back on a breeding territory in a brushy ravine of Innis Park in Columbus

Chipping Sparrow - 1 was calling, but not singing, at Woodside Green Park in Gahanna

White-throated Sparrows - small flocks were at most parks, an increase over the sparse #s of last week

Song Sparrow - numbers were way up at most locations, suggesting an influx of these common sparrows

Fox Sparrow - a beautiful red Eastern form was in Innis Park

Red-winged Blackbirds - unsurprisingly, there were 2-3 at almost every stop I made

Common Grackles - small #s were at nearly every stop

Brown-headed Cowbirds - 2-4 were at each park I visited, so they're back, unfortunately
