Yesterday evening, I heard the first wispy "bzeeee!" of the season from
several Blue-gray Gnatcatchers on my property in Athens County.
I will be interested to see if they are as abundant this year as they were
last year. I remember being amazed at what felt like a very high density of
gnatcatchers in a relatively small area last spring and summer. Will the
same hold true this year?
Also, a Pileated Woodpecker showed me her nest cavity in a sycamore tree
last night, which was a pleasant surprise. Northern Flickers have also been
EXTREMELY vocal and numerous over the last week.
Good birding to all!
