It is presently 2:40PM, Tuesday afternoon; we are observing a male Ruff that just flew in with about a two dozen Lesser and Greater Yellowlegs. The bird is in transitional plumage, with long bill, has a black breast, with brown back, and has been fanning the white on its head. At a distance you could mistake this bird for a Black-bellied Plover, because of the coloration. The location is north of SR95, west of the observation tower, on a penininsula on the west shore. There is a grassy pull-in area at the west end of the water. Scope is necessary. Look for the Trumpeter Swans nearby.
