first time posters here. we saw 44 species yesterday between LaDue (mostly)
and our backyard. thanks to those who posted and encouraged us to explore
this spot.

definites included common loon in summer plumage, american widgeon, gadwall,
trumpeter swans (2 on Auburn Rd, south end), blue-winged teal, wood, ringed
neck, ruddy, horned grebes up close in summer plumage (also south end), pied
billed grebe, bufflehead, kingfishers (a pair), red-breasted merganser,
cormorant, coot, tree swallow.

indefinites: (help anyone?): (1) scaup. saw many. how to tell lesser
from greater? (2) Eurasian widgeon (among gadwall and american widgeon pack
on Auburn Rd, but wind, distance, lack of a scope made it tough, and (3)
Pacific loon. a group of us had a long good look via several scopes at a
lone winter plumage bird south of the dam. we could not decide for certain
what it was. silhouette seemed to match Pacific not common. every bird
guide shows a different pattern of white/dark markings.

we enjoy everyone's postings.
