This morning after farm chores I walked over the hill and into the deepest
ravine, at the southern property line of our farm. Just as I entered the
forest I heard the sweet song of the season's first Louisiana waterthrush.
A fresh-plumaged male was heralding his arrival, running up and down some
fallen trees spanning the ravine, and providing very satisfying looks.

So, our first warbler has arrived. Life is good!

Yesterday as I walked through the forest I heard a high-pitched jumble of
phrases that often confuses me, except that this year I remembered that it
means a ruby-crowned kinglet was singing. A brief look of a tiny bird
flitting through the upper branches confirmed this.
