At about 5PM this afternoon, Friday; Guilford Lake in Columbiana County, could have been renamed Lake Cormorant. There were 312+ Double-crested Cormorants roosting in the trees by the state park campground, or frantically, successfully, fishing in large rafts, in front of the state park beach. This is the largest number of cormorants we have ever recorded at this near to home location. Some of the other birds of note at this traditional birding hotspot lake were: Caspian Terns, Bonaparte's Gulls, Ospreys, Bald Eagles, Common Loons, Horned Grebes, and Ruddy Ducks, just to name a few. Nearby, the seasonal Sandhill Crane pair, was soaring overhead.
