Another good day of temperate migrants seems at hand, as I spent about 45 minutes at this park deep in the urban core of east Columbus and came away with a good list of early migrants. In about 45 minutes this morning, I had
3 Flickers
4 sapsuckers
1 E.Phoebe
2 Brown Creepers
5 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
6 Ruby-cr.Kinglets
5 Golden-cr.Kinglets
7 Hermit Thrushes (mostly feeding on winterberry vine fruits)
2 Brown Thrashers
1 Yellow-throated Warbler
5 Yellow-rumped Warblers
1 Louisiana Waterthrush
2 E.Towhees
5 Chipping Sparrows
25+ White-throated Sparrows
along with good numbers of expected residents. These small urban parks, especially along the Olentangy River and Alum Creek (where Innis sits) can be good migrant traps in Spring. Today might be a good day to check out Jeffrey Park, Whetstone Park, or Antrum Lake.
