Lots of birding in small snippets today:

A short lunchtime walk before the sleet started at Shaker Lakes Nature Center yielded lots of sparrows. Mostly song sparrows but also American Tree sparrows, white-throated sparrows and field sparrows, all singing.

Also several yellow-rumped warblers, white-breasted nuthatches, belted kingfisher, downy woodpecker, cardinals, goldfinches and robins.

A dusk walk at Horseshoe Lake yielded buffleheads, pied-billed grebes, great blue heron plus the usual Canada geese, mallards and wood ducks.

The bird highlight of the day though was definitely when the woodcock landed on the field in the midst of the baseball game. It fluttered around to a few different spots before deciding the baseball grass was not to it's liking and took off back towards the cemetery.
