I have not seen other reports so thought I should post. It was 32 and
frost at 7:30 AM. Not much song until it warmed to about 55 by 11 AM.
Yellow-throated vireos, lots of gnatcatchers, ruby and golden-crowned
kinglets, yellow-throated warblers and Louisian Waterthrushes are on
territory, also a few hooded warblers singing, pine, yellow-rumped, B&W,
Redstart and black-throated green are around. The most intereresting
warbler was a prairie wrabler up on the ridge of forest road 2 where the
north side valley is burned and recovering I wondered if it would be good
prairie warbler habitat some day and next thing a prairie warbler song was
loud and clear. It was a gorgeous sight. Red-headed woodpeckers are
everywhere especially near the edges of burn areas with standing deadwood.
I did not pick these up last spring at Shawnee. Sunday makes the second
time in April that I have picked up all 7 Ohio woodpecker species in one
day. I think I will forgo Magee this weekend and head back south again.

Peter
