This afternoon Linda and I checked outactivity at the Dustin Road and Old Sunbury Road sections of the Hoover NaturePreserve. The first wave of Prothonotary Warblers is beginning to trickle in.Although the overall numbers are not high, it is a beginning to be followed bya sea of dazzling golden-yellow joy.

Highlights from Dustin Road include Osprey, Cooper's Hawk, Chimney Swift (FOS), Cliff Swallow, BrownCreeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, YellowWarbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler and Louisiana Waterthrush.

Highlightsfrom Old Sunbury Road include Double-crested Cormorant (several hundred), Osprey,Bald Eagle (on nest and doing fine), Chimney Swift, Brown Creeper, Winter Wren(FOS), Golden-crowned Kinglet, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, YellowWarbler, Yellow-rumped Warbler, Prothonotary Warbler, Louisiana Waterthrush andSwamp Sparrow.

Also,a reminder to birders, the Sunbury Road bridge into Galena from the east willclose as of April 22nd (Monday) and be closed through sometime inAugust (if on schedule). This will be an inconvenience but if you have seen theunderside of the bridge you know why the bridge is being replaced.
