My wife and I took a short walk on the Silver Loop trail at Germantown Metropark yesterday to test my new hearing aids. I can hear birdsong again! We were treated to a Northern Parula singing from high in a Tulip tree, the bird I wanted to hear to test the function of the new aids. If, like me, you have lost hearing of the higher frequencies, I encourage you to have your hearing tested. Now I feel like a ‘complete’ birder again, with the ability to hear as well as see.
Besides the Parula, we heard several Wood Thrushes and a few notes from an Ovenbird. For many years we have reliably heard and seen both of these beautiful songsters from this wildflower filled trail.
