Last evening, Jane and I walked around the perimeter of the successional
field, I heard my first "chk-brrr" of the year. Scarlet tanagers have
arrived.

This morning, on the snag above the tangled thicket in the same field, I
heard and saw my first 2013 blue-winged warbler. I believe this bird must
be the same we had last year, who sings a slightly peculiar
"Feeeeeee-Fee-Fee-Bzzzzzz." Carefully looking at him through the
binoculars, as he belted away in the snagtop, I did not see anything to
suggest that he is anything but a blue-winged warbler, but the song gives
me pause, and suggests possible hybridization. I'm still waiting for my
lifer golden-winged here.

I also heard my first-of-season yellow warbler around the edge across the
hill this morning

Both white-throated and white-crowned sparrows are singing this morning.

I think I heard a rose-breasted grosbeak in the forest, but he didn't
repeat, so I won't count it just yet. I will check back later today.

House wren showed up first last Monday, 4/22.

Vireos, likely red-eyed, have also been around for a few days, in the
budding canopy and difficult to spot. I think Tuesday was the first I heard
them this year.
