TodayLinda and I birded along the multipurpose trail that runs from Casto Park inWesterville, south to Parkridge Park in Columbus. The trail runs beside AlumCreek and has good cover for the birds most of its length. Last December whileworking this area for the Audubon Christmas Bird Count we had a nice variety ofspecies including a very cooperative Barred Owl. Today there was activity allalong the trail including a nice group of warblers. As usual Yellow-rumps werethe most common with flurries as thick as gnats at times. We observed 3extremely cooperative Blue-winged Warblers. In the large sycamore trees wefound numerous Northern Parula’s and Yellow-throated Warblers, but best was thepair of Red-shouldered Hawks constructing a nest. As we were returning to thecar at Casto Park we ran into a Semi-palmated Plover hanging around with 3Killdeer. A list of the species observed along the trail follows.
