Hi Everyone,

Beth and I spent an hour or so at NCSL, on the border between Cleveland
Heights and Shaker Heights, this morning. It was generally pretty quiet‹or
more accurately there was a low level of activity, though the birds that
were there were doing a lot of singing. They included:

Lots of singing from Song Sparrows throughout the area
Trilling from the small number of Dark-eyed Juncos
Lots of singing and calling from American Goldfinches
Drumming by Hairy Woodpecker and
Calls by Downy Woodpeckers and red-belied Woodpeckers
Calls by Herring Gulls
Calls by Canada Geese

In addition, we had:
Wood Duck‹three pairs
Mallard- only 3-4 pair
Great Blue Heron-1
House Finch
Black-capped Chickadee
Tufted Titmouse
American Robin
Mourning Dove
Blue Jay
European Starling
Cooper¹s Hawk‹2 flyovers at Lower Lake, though we¹d be hard-put to say if
they were two birds or the same one twice

And our first of the year
Golden-crowned Kinglets‹one pair seen from the boardwalk, and a few heard
around Lower Lake

The sun came out (a rare phenomenon around here lately) and everyone¹s new
plumage was just brilliant!
