Delaware State Park is located about 5 miles north of the city of
Delaware, off of Rte 23. This morning from 8:00 till 8:38 I had a
Golden-winged Warbler on the Mink Run Trail(also known as the Mink Trail)
The trail begins at the Main Marina. The bird can be heard from the parking
lot. Most of the time I observed the bird it was around 30 yards from the
beginning of the trail. It was spending most of the time in Slippery Elms.
They have a leaf similar to the American Beech. If you push on the bark it
feels like cork. It was eating insects & caterpillars, being very active.
There were other Warblers in these trees also.
At 10:36 am Sam Rockwell arrived. We had the bird but it was sitting
still looking around. It was getting hot.We last heard it at 10:59 am. At
that time we heard no other Warblers due to the heat. I had a total
Warblers on Mink Run Trail. I had a Cerulean & 2 N Parulas on the Briar
Patch Trail.m Till it got hot Delaware State Park was very active.
