Hello All... An update about the Western Meadowlark that was reported a couple of weeks ago near the Big Island WA. We stopped briefly this mid-afternoon to see if the WEME was still present, and after about 5 minutes of waiting/listening, it sang once. I'd guess that it will be singing more often early in the morning, or later in the evening. Big Island WA is located a few miles W of Marion, Ohio, both to the N and to the S of SR 95. This meadowlark has seemingly set up a territory along Herr Road which runs to the N off of SR 95, and just E of the intersection of SR 95 and SR 203. From SR 95, turn N on Herr Rd and look for the radio tower in the field on your left (to the West). Continue on N about 1/4 of a mile past the tower and pull off to the side of the road where the green grassy field meets the section of grass that is much more brown. You should soon hear the somewhat atypical W Meadowlark song and may even get some good looks at this bird
as it flies about in the grassy field. Morning light is better for best views.

More later,
Dan
