I hiked around several areas of Battelle-Darby this morning, both wooded areas and wetlands, and had good diversity despite a paucity of migrants. I started at Indian Ridge, then went to Cedar Ridge, the Teal Trail, and the Kuhlwein wetlands. I didn't have time or the shoes to walk out into the mudfield where the shorebirds have been, but did hit areas north and south of it, picking up lots of wetland birds but not very many shorebirds. The morning's list included:

American Bittern - 1 was calling in the Kuhlwein wetlands
Pied-billed Grebes - a pair was calling in the Kuhlwein wetlands
Amer.Coots - 6-8 in both the Teal trail and the Kuhlwein wetlands
Blue-winged Teal - 8+ around the big pond on the Teal trail
N.Shovelers - 6+ on the big pond along the Teal Trail, including several displaying males
Semipalmated Plovers - 2 at the Kuhlwein wetlands
Spotted Sandpiper - 1 display-flying at the Kuhlwein wetlands
Pectoral Sandpipers - 2 flybys at the Teal Trail
Least Sandpipers - 6 flybys at the Teal Trail
Sora - 4 were calling at the Teal Trail, while 2 were calling at the Kuhlwein wetland
Virginia Rail - 2 were calling along the Teal Trail

Flycatchers - lots of Pewees in the woods, along with 8-9 Great Crested Flycatchers. 1 Willow Flycatcher was at Kuhlwein
Swallows - few Trees and Barns along with 1 Bank at Teal trail
Vireos - numerous Red-eyed in the wooded areas; also had Yellow-throated and Warbling
Wrens,Gnatcatchers - 1 Marsh Wren at Kuhlwein; lots of Gnatcatchers along wooded edges
Thrushes - 2-3 Swainson's were lurking in the woods at Cedar Ridge & Indian Ridge; Wood Thrushes were common in the former.
Cedar Waxwings - no big flocks, but pairs of waxwings at several locations
Warblers - 14 sp., but mostly in 1s or 2s, except for Common Yellowthroats (which were over 25) and Kentuckies (which numbered 5 along the Terrace Trail at Indian Ridge). List included Yellow, Parula, Tennessee, Magnolia, Chesnut-sided, Cape May, Yellow-throated, Blackburnian, Blackpoll, Yellow-rumped, Amer.Redstart, Ovenbird

Sparrows - Grasshopper Sparrows along the Teal Trail; Vesper & Savannah at the Kuhlwein wetlands
Tanagers - singing Scarlets at several locations. A singing Summer was at Cedar Ridge, where they've summered recently
Grosbeaks,Buntings - 2 singing Rose-br.Grosbeaks at Indian Ridge. Abundant Indigo Buntings at all stops
Icterids - lots of Redwings, Grackles , & cowbirds at all stops. 2 singing E.Meadowlarks at both the Teal Trail and the Kuhlwein wetlands. Baltimore Orioles numerous along Darby Creek
