I had a fun week in my yard in Mentor. Monday morning the babies fledged from the screech owl nest I'd been watching in my yard. The parents are a gray phase and a beautiful rusty red phase. There are at least 3, possibly 4 wonderful balls of fluff. It was fun to watch them try to fly from branch to branch, and climb up the tree trunks when they missed. One little guys totally conked out with his head in the crotch of a branch. Luckily it was a day off from work so I could spend most of the day watching.
Tonight three nighthawks were circling over my yard. I didn't hear them call at all. It has been years since I've seen nighthawks in the neighborhood, so it was a welcome sight.
There was also a tiny fawn in our front yard yesterday, nestled between the edge of the lawn and my VW bug. Mom had moved it by this AM. Not a bird sighting but so cute!
