Backyard Beavercreek, the FOY Ruby-Throated Hummingbird male first touch down on feeders @
6pm on 5/4/13. On schedule as usual over the years it been first week May, no earlier.

Beautiful sunny day birding on Friday 5/3/13, started Kayaking from Bellbrook Constitution Park,
located on the Little Miami River on State Rt. 725 ending at River's Edge canoe livery. On the river
east of SR 42 bridge overpass, numerous neotropical migrants foraging and claiming territory.
Some highlights noted are:

–Great Crested Flycatcher (2) together, heard first the harsh 'breep' calls then seen above crossing
from side to side on river
-Baltimore Orioles (dozens vocalizing seen at Sycamore tree tops)
–Northern Parula (3-6) heard series of buzzy notes along river in low brush
-Eastern Kingbird (2) together gathering flying insects at tree tops
-many Vireo's and Warblers heard but no binocular's on hand
-tons of Northern Rough-winged Swallows flying low on water, especially near the banks of river
-possible Brown Thrasher (1) heard just west of SR 42 bridge
–Field Sparrow (1) heard along flat grassy field before Roxanna Burlington bridge
-White-throated Sparrow heard 'Ol Miss Peabody' song
-Spotted Sandpiper (2) river's edge
-Osprey (2) flying along river toward Spring Valley area, likely the ones from nearby Caesar's Creek
nesting area
-Red-winged blackbird (1)
-tons of Turkey Vulture's and American Crows in vicinity along river

Overall one of the best birding days in long time, just needed binoculars on hand instead of
paddles! :)
Happy birding!
