How birds have helped Middle Eastern nations cooperate peacefully
Israel is a natural migration corridor for birds moving to and from
Europe/Asia and Africa. In a part of the world where land and resources have
been warred over for centuries, birds have been a bridge between the nation
of Israel and its neighbors Syria, Jordan, and Egypt. Birds have provided a
common ground for school children, citizens, scientists, and even
politicians‹helping them to focus their energy, passion, and efforts toward
cooperation surrounding bird conservation. Jonathan Meyrav is a native
Israeli who has been interested in birds since his youth. He is the tourism
director of the Israeli Ornithological Center (IOC), where he puts his
exceptional skills to work guiding foreign bird watchers and managing two
large and growing international events (the Hula and Eilat Birding
Festivals). Jonathan will share his first-hand experiences in birding and
bird conservation in the Middle East, an area which, despite its profile in
the media, has an exceptional wealth of natural diversity.

Jonathan Meyrav is visiting in Marietta and has offered to share his birding
conservation perspective with us. The talk is free an open to the public.
Thursday, May 16, at 7 pm
Selby Science Center at Marietta College.
