After examining and comparing photos taken by Cory "CHIA" Chiappone of the Ohio Headlands bird on June 15th, with photos taken by Jerry McWilliams of the Pennsylvania Presque Isle bird on June 22nd, it definitely appears there were two different Western Grebes gracing the southeastern shore of Lake Erie in the past week. The black cap of the Headlands bird appeared to extend farther down, almost to a line extending thru the bill to the back of the head. The Headlands bird also appeared to have a much darker bill, compared to a brightish yellow bill on the Presque Isle bird, making you wishful think of an adult Clark's Grebe. The facial white appeared more extensive on the Presque Isle bird, extending above the line thru the bill to the back of the head. If two different birds, pretty wild! Thanks to "CHIA" and Jerry for sending me their photos.
