Lake Hope State Park & Zaleski State Forest are located 14 miles south
of Nelsonville(Rte 33) off of Rte 278

I have been visiting the area once or twice a week all summer. There
has been a lot of activity of Adults feeding Hatching Year birds. I have
heard Whip-poor-wills when I arrive in the area around 5:30 am. Around 5:40
am the birds start singing. I have been exploring new Shelter Woods & Clear
Cuts. All are similar to the areas I have reported along King Hollow Rd &
Baptist Church Rd.

This summer I have found & heard male Magnolia Warblers in 4 different
places. I have found 2 females in 2 different places where I have the male
Magnolia Warblers. I have found 2 pair of Chestnut-sided Warblers foraging
together in 2 different places. In a third place I have a male singing.
Though I have not found a female here, I assume there is one because there
have been a pair the last 3 years. I also have found Broad-winged Hawks in
3 different places this summer.

I was with Bill Kinkead exploring a Shelter Woods & Clear Cut. We
found 2 Red-headed woodpeckers with Orange where there is normally White.
Bill looked at his White tennis shoes & they were Orange also. We had been
walking through puddles in the clay soil. I assume the Red-headed
Woodpeckers were taking baths in these puddles also!!!

For more detail look at my last few posts from this area or e-mail me at
