This morning, Friday, about 7:45AM, Jeff Harvey and Bob Krajeski counted a remarkable 45 Bald Eagles from "The Sandspit" in Conneaut Harbor. The Bald Eagles were on the breakwalls, the tops of the aggregate piles, and in their roost trees to the east. On normal early morning visits, my wife Denise and I see 20+ easily. Adult wise, Bob and Jeff had the usual three adults, and the rest juveniles. For Ohio and the southeast shore of Lake Erie, to see this many Bald Eagles at one location at one time, is truly jaw dropping amazing! Local kayakers report seeing Bald Eagles regularly upstream on Conneaut Creek; Conneaut Harbor is where Conneaut Creek enters Lake Erie. Good fishing??? Why do they congregate here? Who needs Alaska? We have our own Bald Eagle hotspot.
