In a pretty good downpour this afternoon, Saturday, two Whimbrel arrived at 1:02Pm. Denise and I, along with Bob Krajeski, Craig Holt, and Ryan Golterman, shared "The Sandspit" with the two celebrity avian visitors until about 2:04PM; when they began calling. Two minutes later at 2:06PM, they lifted off, still calling, and headed out past the lighthouse and disappeared out over Lake Erie. Some of the other shorebirds in good numbers still present at 2:40PM are Semipalmated Plovers, Sanderlings, Semipalmated Sandpipers, and a few Least Sandpipers. Earlier in the morning, a single Ruddy Turnstone along with a single Lesser Yellowlegs was also here. As I am typing up the post, 3 more Ruddy Turnstones are circling overhead. The rain continues, keeping "The Conneaut Dock Fest" participants at the marina to a minimum.
