Hello all,

In case you haven't heard, the Middle Harbor mudflats at East Harbor SP in Lakeside is where most of the shorebird action is at right now in the Western Lake Erie Basin. The habitat has been improving since the final days of July thanks to an increased effort at pumping water out. And, the shorebirds are taking an interest.

The mudflat is viewable from the West Harbor hiking trail, accessed from the terminus of Buck Rd., or via the adjacent unmarked trail thru the woods where you can get right in the middle of the action (recommended).

In addition to my list (below) from this afternoon,4 August, you can add 1 Red Knot courtesy of Jeff Harvey this morning, which puts us at 12 species for the day.

Shorebirds:

Black-bellied Plover 2
Semipalmated Plover 12
Killdeer 20
Spotted Sandpiper 5
Greater Yellowlegs 1
Lesser Yellowlegs 29
Semipalmated Sandpiper 60
Least Sandpiper 30
White-rumped Sandpiper 1 basic/ 1st summer
Pectoral Sandpiper 15
Short-billed Dowitcher (Prairie) 1

Good birding,
Justin Bosler
