Probably not too exciting for most, but for me a first-ever sighting.  Yesterday mid-to-late afternoon, maybe around 3:00pm I had two Common Nighthawks flying over my pond.  Is this early in the day for them?  I don't know how long they were there in total time, but after I noticed them, one flew off about two minutes later,  The other remained for another 5-8 minutes, just long enough for me to get the binoculars and birding-book.  The white bars under the wings are what nailed it for me since I had never seen one of these beautiful birds.  Really somewhat hard to follow with the glasses since the flight pattern was so erratic, kind of swallow-like with many changes in direction.  Likely feeding on bugs above the pond? Finally got one of the birds I've always wanted!
Cheers, keep looking up,
