I spent this morning volunteering at Highbanks Metro
Park. I was inside the Nature Center and was told by several birders of the
activity they were seeing. It sounded like a nice variety of wood warblers was
present at the park and there I was inside. After I finished my volunteer shift
and got home  and I mentioned this to my wife and instead of heading to the Hoover
Nature Preserve to clean nest boxes we headed over to Char Mar Preservation
Park with field glasses in hand and we were rewarded by a nice variety of
warblers even though it was the afternoon. This newer park still has low
traffic and we were basically undisturbed as we enjoyed a splash of fall color.
The highlight was an unbelievably cooperative Connecticut Warbler that came
completely out in the open for us to savor.
At the small lake on the trail we observed a nice group
of Wood Ducks and at the exit water stream there was a small pool that acted as
a magnet for warblers. The activity at this location was so intense one could
not keep up with it.
Warblers
observed:
Tennessee Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Northern Parula
Cape May Warbler
Black-throated Blue Warbler
Black-throated Green Warbler
Bay-breasted Warbler
Blackpoll Warbler
Black-and-White Warbler
American Redstart
Connecticut Warbler
Wilson’s Warbler
