I see that a number of people posting to this list use eBird. I also submit
lists to that website. I enjoy it very much. Doing a list makes me really
look and listen when I go out searching for birds.

I have found that the Range Maps can be useful for seeing what other people
are finding in the parks and other areas where I live. But, I think I am
missing some posts that other birders are making.

The way I have been using eBird to see what others are seeing is to use the
"Explore Data" link, then opening the "Range Maps" and zooming in on my
geographical area. I then enter a really common species name ("goldfinch",
for example), a current date range and a city name in my area.

I am then presented with a map with markers where people have been doing
lists in the area. I find that doing more than one search using different
different common species names gives me more lists. But, I know that I am
still missing some markers/lists. For example, if someone sees an uncommon
bird and only enters an incidental report, I will probably miss it.

What I would like to be able to do is to just enter a date range and a
location to see all the markers/lists in an area. That would bring up all
the markers/list for a time period.

I have seen the new Hot Spots map. It is useful if someone marks their entry
as a Hot Spot. But, a non-Hot Spot will not appear on this map.

Any suggestions for seeing more data on the eBird maps? I think it is a good
tool to see what others are seeing. I just want to know how to get even more
out of it. I have posted this question on the eBird Forum; but, I didn't get
any additional help for seeing more data.
