Today on my way to Syracuse, NY area, I stopped by Conneaut since I was "ahead" of schedule for a change.  Only two shorebirds, semi-pal plover and sanderlings (one with an injured leg so hopping along but keeping up with the others just fine) though they were very close so excellent looks, lots of gulls - ring-billed and herring, a couple immature eagles.  But there were two male red-breasted mergansers walked around on the narrow beach at the edge of lagoon across from the boat launch -- of the thousands of mergs I've seen, never one on land -- who knew they had legs?  One appeared to have an injuried wing.
