This is a late report, but I hope some find it interesting. Today as I was
roofing a small building (our tack barn) on our farm, a great blue heron
flew low overhead, reminding me of an incident Friday I meant to report
earlier.

As I was driving home to Muskingum Co. from some work in Columbus on
Friday, around 6:15, I was approaching the rest area on eastbound I-70
around mile marker 131. I spotted a "heron" at some distance ahead,
crossing over the freeway with powerful wingbeats, but something didn't
seem quite right. The cadence was wrong... and the shape... and the white
tail and head on a large dark bird. Adult bald eagle! It was headed
southbound toward the eastern end of Buckeye Lake, so folks in Licking and
Perry Counties might want to keep an eye out.

I have seen two bald eagles in 13 years of observing birds on my farm, but
this was the first have run across (or rather, driven under) near Buckeye
Lake.
