Hello all,

Middle Harbor at East Harbor SP (Ottawa Co.) is once again prime for shorebirds, thanks to the continued pumping by Chris Ashley and state park staff.  Yesterday, 17 Sep, I tallied 10 species, including 2 juvenile Red Knots and the continuing 9 juvenile Red-necked Phalaropes from Sunday, 15 Sep (not Monday as Allen Chartier seemed to indicate).  A good number of Sanderlings continue, down to 14 from a high count of 22. And, a Merlin was spotted by another birder in the evening.

Nearby Medusa Marsh in Erie Co., portion along Barrett Rd., hosted 30 Lesser and 5 Greater Yellowlegs as well as 2 Red-necked Phalaropes and a solo Long-billed Dowitcher.

There's also the continuing American Avocet at Willow Point WA, and yet another at a closed area of Ottawa NWR in Ottawa Co.

Barring any significant rain, the shorebirding prospects for the Midwest Birding Symposium are looking good.
